The invisible boot

I came across the phrase ‘the invisible boot’ recently; a counterpart to Adam Smith’s invisible hand. It’s an interesting – and catchy, I think – metaphor.

There’s an article over at Slate that uses it in one sense; but it would fit well in a range of discussions. The question would be which theory it best matches.
